Found this article from the UK's Telegraph newspaper:  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/classicalmusic/10350252/US-orchestras-are-greedy-and-overpaid.html#disqus_thread.  It says that US orchestra's are overpaid and whinny.  Of course, the best part of the article are the comments.  The idea that the US has "feeder orchestras" and "attraction orchestras" is probably a valid analysisl.  AMC likes the discussion- not necessarily the content of the article.
